Get Sprung! Fresh Ideas for Your Spring Events!

You know that great feeling that comes over your body as the sun begins shining just a little bit brighter and the winter chill begins to slip away to distant memory?  For most people, this marks the beginning of Spring.  For event planners, like me, it marks the beginning of wedding season, spring parties, outdoor events, and so much more.  And I couldn't be more excited!

While I am a big fan of living outside of the box, there is a certain mystical wonderment to decorating in essence of the season.  As we embark on Spring, why not add some peach and mint freshness with some classic floral and touches of gold class.  Today's entry is entirely focused on the inspirations of spring, so let's get started!

First, let's talk color...it is inevitable that there are colors that you see that automatically remind you of birds chirping, cute flats with knee length skirts, long walks on pavement sidewalks and sipping raspberry lemonade on the porch.  When throwing a party in spring, embrace those colors to emit a mood in your parties.  I usually look to fashion first which often gives clues on what colors are really going to be hot in a season.

Two of my fave colors for Spring are Hemlock (near to a minty, fresh green) and Placid Blue (reminds me of clear blue water)!  What do you think?

And while the spectrum of trendy spring colors runs wide and deep (see some more great Spring colors below), your event should also be a reflection of you so don't feel confined by color but rather feel inspired!

Now let's take a look at another step to adding Spring to your events!  You guessed it, PRINTS!  I am a HUGE fan of floral print and spring but there are so many other great prints to play with!  Below I arranged some great prints that scream Spring!

Last but not least, finish off your Spring event décor with the perfect touches.  I think enhancements or small details really can make or break an events appearance!  I am a big fan...no, HUGE fan...of feminine touches for Spring.  I love the accents of gold above all else!  Check out some great décor additions that can take your event from Eh to Wow!

Take a look at what you see in nature on a lovely spring day and EMBRACE IT!  See this great botanical wedding featured on greenweddingshoes.com:

If you're not into going au naturale, and prefer a little glitz and glam, you can add some fantastic sparkle and shine to your event in Spring by adding gold.  I adore gold accents with nearly any color palette and with baby's breathe it is absolutely heavenly!

Benefits of a Day-Of Wedding Coordinator

When I was getting married, I truly thought I had my planning down pat.  In my mind, my organizational and wedding planning skills were in line with such dynamos as Martha Stewart or David Tutera.  I have always been the anally organized person - legitimately, I have color-coded calendars, people...several of them.  When I started planning my wedding, I made my planning binder, made several million spreadsheets, and started my own wedding website.  I had this.  Heck, I would even high-five myself at times just to remind me how good I really was (okay, well, not really but you get the point).  So, why, you may ask, did I choose to hire a Day-Of Wedding Coordinator for my own wedding?

Let me start with this...when I got engaged, I had recently made the decision to leave my long-time career and start my own business.  I was in the VERY early stages of my business and thought taking on planning on my own would be something I could handle and I did well.  However, if I were still working at my full-time job, I probably would have hired on a full planner.  Why?  Here's the thing...planners can be what you can see on wedding television shows.  But, moreso, they are a million things you don't get to see.

When you hire a wedding planner you are hiring an extra set of hands, ears, and eyes.  A planner will help look for items that you want for you wedding (and often, in their expertise, already have the connections to do so).  They will send numerous emails and make phone calls to vendors and venues so you don't have to do all of those mundane tasks.  And, the most important part, is the day-of coordination...

Around the six month mark in my wedding, I decided on a Day-Of Wedding Coordinator.  I began envisioning the day of my wedding and wondering how things would pan out.  Sure, I could have myself and my friends and family help out with setting up the reception before my ceremony and I could have dealt with problems that may arise and I could pack a million little things to bring with me...but why should I?  It's your wedding day, a celebration of your life and love that you are including your friends and family in.  Rather than spending time setting up place cards with your bridesmaids, why not spend some bonding time at the salon or eating small snacks and just hanging out together?  I had my bridesmaids spend the night the night before my wedding day...we played board games and drank wine and just had a nice time.  The next morning, we spent the morning in the salon getting our hair and makeup done while sipping mimosas and having silly photo shoots.  After we came back to my house and I hung out with my family and them and watched TV and ate lunch.  I did not fall into that trap you hear so often of brides not having time to eat and relax.  I can describe my mood as tranquil and calm.  My wedding was perfect and I had not a care in the world.  If there was a problem, my Day-Of Coordinator took care of it  before I even knew it was happening.  I was just happy.

When I began doing wedding planning and coordination, I thought very carefully about what it felt like to be a bride.  When someone hires me for full planning, they get a VERY detailed binder of things that I needed help with.  I tried to cover EVERYTHING and trust me it's GOOOOOOOOOD!  No matter what level of planning people choose, I do a lot of services that the bride and groom just shouldn't have to.  I call and email EVERY vendor the week before the wedding to confirm their set times and make sure they know what is expected of them.  I also do vendor control the day of the wedding.  I bring all items to the reception hall so you don't have to (place cards, guest books, card boxes, etc.) and then set them up.  I serve as the contact person for you bridal party as well.  I work with the venue to make sure all details are expedited properly.  And the best part?  The behind the scenes care I take with a couple...I bring an EXTENSIVE Wedding Emergency Kit with me to every event that includes anything from smelling salts to a curling iron to band aids to about 6 kinds of tape...it literally has more things than you could ever imagine you may possibly need (you get a list of these things when you hire me!).

I have seen a lot of crazy things happen at weddings...things that would make a bride lose her cool and stress unnecessarily.  Don't you want to be able to just worry about being in love and having the time of your life?  I did.  Trust me, a Day-Of Wedding Coordinator is more than worth the money, and is honestly not that costly (http://www.posheventcoordinator.com/category_1/Weddings.htm).  Find out today...it is the BEST money you will spend in your wedding budget!

Just Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride

Once upon a time, I left my career path of some 12 years as a manager of a coffee shop.  I loved my work but I woke up one day needing something more.  Unaware of where exactly I was supposed to go at that point, I took a year off work and focused on planning my wedding and trying to figure out where my new path would take me.

My new path started, in fact, while planning my own wedding.  I was a VERY DIY-minded bride.  I have been raised by an extremely crafty and talented mother and my creativity level is kinda chart topping (not to brag or anything), so it was only natural that I would take on all of the décor choices and special touches for my wedding.  Even doing so, I knew the day of the wedding I wanted to sit back, relax (as much as possible), and have the most fun one person could have.  I accomplished all those things.  How you may ask?  Yes, I am meticulously detail-oriented and fabulously on top of most things handed to me.  But the real reason I could achieve my laid-back wedding day was by hiring a day-of wedding coordinator.  I think of all of the money I spent, having a day-of coordinator was by far the most worthy of every cent spent.  I got to relax at home before my wedding hanging out with my bridesmaids and family.  At the wedding, sure things went wrong, but I barely knew about any of them because I had someone to step in and lessen the magnitude of any potential issues.

Now fast-forward to a few days after my wedding...the day-of wedding coordinator that I used for my wedding wrote me and said that they were impressed with my organization and details and wanted to see if I was interested in doing an internship with them.  Being someone who was living in a moment of the power of saying yes, I did just that.  Shortly after saying yes, I got to work my first wedding as an intern.  I learned immediately in working on that fabulous outdoor wedding that being a coordinator was definitely hard work.  I also learned that I LOVED it.  The next day I woke ups with blisters and a sore body, but I also woke up thinking of the dreaminess I had taken a part of the day before.  I remembered loving solving problems that could have been stressful for the couple but weren't...like the messed up frosting on their cake, the dance floor that was literally falling apart, the hundred chairs that needed to be moved around a house that had hills and valleys, and so much more.  Above all, I remembered the beautiful bride walking with me nervously down the stairs and to where her ceremony was about to begin.  I remember the father-of-the-bride giving a toast that made me tear.  And I remembered seeing a groom and bride look into one another's eyes with love radiating intensely from them.  I was forever impacted.

During that wedding season I worked on other weddings as an intern.  I saw the extravagant beauty of an Arabic wedding, the quaint feel of an outdoor home wedding, the calm in a small wedding at a traditional venue, as well as an exquisite night on a Michigan harbor.  I learned that weddings brought a level of excitement and passion to my life.  I learned that aiding in making someone's event perfect was something that brought me pride.

This past month, I decided that I wanted and needed to push myself even further and I left my internship to embark upon a business venture of my own.  Posh Event Coordinator was then born.  I take great pride in knowing that soon my business will be providing services that will allow people to have their dream events worry-free.  In addition, I am looking forward to seeing the happiness and love in my clients eyes as they dance to their first dance at their wedding, watch their little girl blow out her candles, or prepare for their baby to enter the world.

I am proof that sometimes the best things in life come from moments when you just sit back and enjoy the ride...when you quit trying so hard and just start embracing what is inside of you.  I am looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you.
